Training of Trainers Workshops
Washington Dental Service Foundation will sponsor one Training of Trainers workshop in 2017 in the Seattle area. Check back for exact date and location.
Workshop Description: Good oral health is central to successful aging and caregivers play a critical role in making sure clients’ oral care is addressed. Oral health is directly related to good nutrition, self-esteem, and quality of life. Just as important as exercise, good oral health habits prevent disease.
This workshop is designed for training and professional development managers. The 5-hour interactive workshop is up-to-date and provides a high-quality continuing education learning opportunity. The curriculum is ready to use right away to educate formal and family caregivers and includes oral health education demonstrations, visuals, and printed materials in an easy-to-understand format.
Key components of the training:
- Basic oral care and disease prevention strategies
- Understanding the impact of medications on oral health
- How diabetes and other chronic conditions are related to oral health
- Tactics for working with clients with dementia and behaviorally-challenged clients
- Hands-on practice and demonstrations
- Training modifications to meet diverse participant needs
Who should attend? Professionals who provide continuing education classes for caregivers.
What’s included? 5-hours CE; continental breakfast and lunch; and a training kit that includes the full curriculum, demo materials, handout masters, links to online training materials, and an implementation guide to plan future caregiver trainings. Training kit value: $150

Oral Health for Caregivers is a training curriculum that provides critical oral health information for those who care for older adults. With an emphasis on prevention, the program introduces oral health in an easy-to-understand format that can be used to educate caregivers. The curriculum is up-to-date and provides a high-quality Continuing Education learning opportunity. The training is offered free of charge for Washington Home Care Aides (serving Medicaid), Adult Family Home providers, and caregivers for developmentally disabled adults.
